 IM Gait
Mate Feedback from a Physical Therapist
"Here is what I
can share with you about my use of the IM Gait Mate – Thus far I
have used it with 4 adults (2 who have survived strokes, 2 who
have Parkinson’s) and 1 child (with a toe-walking diagnosis) – I
have a few more clients I intend to try it with but I am
currently working on getting them to grasp the concept of IM so
I have not begun the IM Gait Mate training. I found if I start with
the standard IM exercises prior to transition to the IM Gait Mate,
clients have felt more successful.
When clients are using the IM Gait Mate I see a definite
improvement in stride length, rhythm and timing of gait (quality
of gait, not necessarily gait speed or gait distance). The
adults I have worked with who have Parkinson’s rarely show a
festinating pattern or freezing when using the device; one of my
stroke survivors went from using a 3 point pattern with her cane
to a 2 point pattern after her first Gait Mate session we
tried. The range of the wireless transmitters is great. We can
walk the length of the hallway outside the office where I have
the IM for about 50’ in either direction - about 100’ of total
walking before needing to turn around."
