IM Home and Auditory Processing Disorder: A Tool for Auditory Processing Training
Children and adults with Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) struggle with processing speech and other auditory signals with clarity and in real time. They often experience delays in processing speed and mishear speech. As a result, there can be negative social, emotional, and/or educational outcomes. Many listeners with APD have average or better intelligence but are limited in their potential because of this foundational processing deficit.
This presentation will focus on how Interactive Metronome (IM) training can improve sensory and motor synchronization that is critical for effective auditory processing. Dr. Reeves will discuss why Interactive Metronome is an effective treatment intervention for APD. She will also provide effective strategies for incorporating IM in clinical and home exercise programs, including challenges clinicians face with compliance and affordability. Information will be shared detailing how her private practice has specifically been able to overcome these challenges and provide a road map for other clinicians to do the same.
