Course Description
This seminar will be about how my company, Accelerated Learning integrates IM into my Summer Intensive Learning Camps. I will explain the premise for the camp, why I started the camp, the success rate and show the improvements from the camp after two weeks.

Accelerated Learning's two week Summer Intensive camp incorporates one-on-one tutoring with Interactive Metronome, the Fast ForWord Family of Programs, and The Listening Program. The camp is intended to help a student’s learning performance with emphasis on reading (Orton-Gillingham), math or writing.

The camp runs from 9:00 – 1:00 Monday thru Thursday and 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Friday for “Fantastic Fridays.” Our Friday programs include “Learning on the Log” outdoor activities like rafting, canoeing, hiking, and light swimming/wading. They will have fun while working as a group to solve problems utilizing skills learned during camp.

Instructor(s) - One of the following:

Laura Smith,  has a Masters in Elementary Education and is a certified teacher for Kindergarten – 8th grade. She’s trained in the Orton-Gillingham methodology from Kindergarten – Adult. Her educational journey started when her daughter was diagnosed with Dyslexia and ADHD back in 2003. She learned about Interactive Metronome when her son did the program that year as well to help with focus and slight attention issues. Her daughter did the program in 2004 to help boost her learning. Laura received her IM certification in 2007 when she was running a school for autistic children.

Laura uses Interactive Metronome in her learning center to help students increase fluency, processing, attention and overall brain function. It is a part of the daily routine in her Summer Intensive Learning Camp. She is currently incorporating IM into her reading instruction, especially with the students who are currently working on increasing attention and fluency.

Laura owns Accelerated Learning, Inc. in downtown Decatur, GA where she and her Orton-Gillingham-trained tutors and Interactive Metronome Certified instructors offer one-on-one instruction. The center also offers other programs specifically targeted to help a child learn, such as Interactive Metronome, Fast ForWord, and The Listening Program.
