Course Description
The purpose of this training is to provide examples of pediatric language therapy outcomes with Interactive Metronome. Evidence of these outcomes will be shared using pre/post data from IM long form assessments, formal speech, language, social/pragmatic tests and functional assessment tools. The presenter will share key principles of an IM intervention chronology and assessment along with five case studies. Participants will learn skills to incorporate valuable speech, language, and social/pragmatic assessment measures for documenting IM outcomes.

June Maranville,  is the Owner/Director of the Palmetto Language & Speech Center (PLSC), a private practice in Lexington, South Carolina. Ms. Maranville has over 15 years experience as a speech language pathologist, working with children and adults of all ages. She has served clients with a wide range of special needs with particular interest in the following areas: early language intervention, augmentative/alternative communication systems, autism, down syndrome, aphasia/stroke, traumatic brain injury, apraxia and articulation/phonology speech therapy.

Director of PLSC, Ms. Maranville holds an undergraduate degree from Columbia College in Speech Correction and a Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology from The University of South Carolina. She holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a member of the South Carolina Speech Language Hearing Association (SCSHA). Ms. Maranville is also Interactive Metronome Certified (IMC) and a credentialed supervisor for undergraduate and graduate students.

Ms. Maranville believes very strongly in advocating for children and adults with communication challenges and has served on various boards and committees in order to promote quality services and be a "voice" for people with special needs as appropriate.

  1. Recognize the potential benefit of Interactive Metronome (IM) as an intervention tool for various speech, language, and social/pragmatic disorders with measurable outcomes.
  2. Identify an intervention strategy to measure outcomes.
  3. Identify the correlation between IM and treatment outcomes in the areas of speech, language and social/pragmatic abilities necessary for socialization, academic and ADL success.
*Note: This course covers information that pertains to licensed therapists and therapy assistants. COTA and PTA professionals must practice IM under the supervision of a licensed OT or PT.

Specific Learning Outcomes for Speech-Language Pathologists & Audiologists:

  1. Recognize the potential benefit of Interactive Metronome (IM) as an intervention tool for various speech, language, and social/pragmatic disorders with measurable outcomes.
  2. Identify an intervention strategy to measure outcomes.
