Gait Training for the Real-World
The Gait Mate is an interactive modality used by therapists to assess gait patterns, provide sensory feedback, and correct gait...all while patients walk! The Gait Mate is the only tool that gives feedback while doing real-world activities, such as walking down a hallway, turning a corner, or stepping off a curb. You can’t do that on a treadmill!
How the Gait Mate Works
- The patient hears a beat through wireless headphones and is instructed to match the cadence provided.
- The therapist inserts a wireless insole into the patient's shoe that detects when the patient performs a heel strike.
- The Gait Mate provides the patient with auditory feedback as they walk, instructing them to speed up or slow down to stay in synch with the metronome beat.
- The patient hears a reward sound when their gait matches the beat and their heel strikes the ground.
?Repetition is essential to movement quality. The Gait Mate provides the repetition while it engages the patient and gives them constant, real-time feedback about their performance. As they adjust their gait it continues to reward and instruct them so that they are constantly improving and exercising.
The Gait Mate is compact and affordable.
