| Course Description |
This presentation will review the clinical research supporting the role of rhythm and timing on a wide array of human function. In addition, this session will provide an overview of the use of rhythm and timing exercises (specifically the Interactive Metronome) that have been shown to improve cognitive and motor function in pediatric and adult rehabilitation. We will give examples of IM’s use in speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy. * Contact hours are offered pending successful completion of a written exam at the end of the course. |

Al Guerra, is Vice President of Rehabilitation Technologies for Interactive Metronome, Inc. His background is in rehabilitation and pediatric hospital administration and in the fulfillment of clinical services to underserved communities. He is a frequent conference speaker on the use of technology applications in rehabilitation.

Target Audience: This self-study course welcomes SLP/SLPA, PT/PTA & OT/COTA. Instructional Level: Introductory Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: - Identify the research supporting the importance of rhythm and timing (motor planning and sequencing) to all areas of rehabilitation;
- State the correlation between rhythm and timing deficits and cognitive and motor deficiencies;
- Be aware of the role of advanced technology in improving rehabilitation outcomes. Specific Learning Outcomes for SLPs:
- SLPs will demonstrate evidence-based practice through knowledge regarding available research and supporting literature for use of Interactive Metronome (IM) in the remediation of speech/language and cognitive/linguistic disorders;
- SLPs will state the role of rhythm and timing in the neurological development of speech-language and cognitive-linguistic abilities;
- SLPs will effectively communicate the rationale for use of IM in the treatment of speech-language and cognitive-linguistic disorders to patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and third party payor sources
